The World Kitchen
In arched cellars, under the brick covered sky, there is a small kitchen.
The kitchens right side starts the day with coffee and tea, the left side starts with the food.
After the morning liquids are done both sides merge together as one to start making the meal of the day.
The origins of the ingredients are as varied as the people who work in the kitchen.
From the moment I began photographing, I felt the warmth and kindness of the people in- and outside the kitchen.
Sometimes the communication with words was difficult but we could always understand each other with gestures and smiles.
In between the cooking there is time for a quick tea or coffee break.
You don’t feel the uncertain future of the people when you see the connection they have amongst each other.
Overcoming more borders than lines on a map, the spirit remains strong.
At the end of each morning the people are lining up.
Slowly moving forward with a plate in hand to receive a sense of a warm and safe home.
