The living mountain
If the mountain was not waste, we might almost regard this man-made unnatural structure with awe. A true spectacle of people and machines.
It is emerging into a symphony that my own frame of reference could not initially grasp.
The almost uninterrupted supply, movement and covering of the waste is where the pickers who try to control the growth of the mountain as much as possible.
For one the mountain offers an opportunity for some extra money between harvesting, the other is not motivated to stay in school or is even forced by their parents to earn money.
Pointing a Western finger without offering a solution is of no use to the people there, so this remains their reality
